William Shearburn Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of the works of Robert Motherwell. On view will be a selection of paintings and works on paper from the Dedalus Foundation. The exhibition will open with a reception on Friday, July 4th from 5 to 7 pm and will continue through August 9th, 2008.
Motherwell, who died in 1991, holds a unique place in art history. His voracious studies of philosophy, politics and poetry allowed him to relate to both the post-war European exiled artists living in New York as well as the yet to be formed group of artists who would later be known as the Abstract Expressionists.
Motherwell’s work has been widely exhibited and collected internationally. He is represented in the permanent collections of many of the world’s finest museums including the Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Tate Modern in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Tel Aviv Museum in Israel.
The Dedalus Foundation was founded by Motherwell during his lifetime in order to foster the public understanding of modern art and Modernism. The Foundation owns the copyrights to all of Robert Motherwell’s works in all mediums. William Shearburn Gallery is pleased to represent the Motherwell Estate.
