William Shearburn Gallery is pleased to present "Drop Stack and Lean," an exhibition exploring sculptural posture and process with works by Carl Andre, Tom Friedman, Robert Gaylor, Andrew Gellatly, Rebecca Holland and Yves Klein.
On Friday, October 24, 2008 the exhibition will commence with a reception from 5 to 7 pm and will continue through December 6, 2008.
The works variously lie on the floor, rest on the classic pedestal, lean against the wall, cover and thereby convert the wall into sculpture, and function as furniture. Some sculptures are primarily handmade while others rely on industrial processes. Together, they provoke dialogue about the legacy of minimalism, permutations of the ready-made, and the social role of art.
